Abstract
⺠We discovered long chain alkenones from Miocene lacustrine strata. ⺠Species producing lacustrine LCAs have existed since at least â¼10.5 Ma. ⺠Study may shed light on evolution of lacustrine LCA precursor organisms. ⺠U37Kâ² temperature reconstruction may be used in pre-Quaternary terrestrial settings.
