Abstract
⺠Isoprenoid glycerol dialkanol diethers (GDDs) are widespread in marine sediments. ⺠They co-occur with corresponding GDGTs. ⺠Recycling of fossil GDGTs by benthic archaea may produce GDDs. ⺠GDDs were also found in an archaeal culture, suggestive of a biological origin.
