Abstract
⺠Mine soils in the Lusatian district (Germany) contains lignite and recent OM. ⺠Py-GC-MS was used to monitor C sources and degradation in contrasting environments. ⺠It was possible to discern OM sources, both from lignite and from the vegetation. ⺠OM protection prevailed in submerged areas, degradation in land-water interfaces. ⺠Evidence for C preservation via “quenching” with S and plant derived lipids.
