Abstract
► Black C (BC) was unaffected by stubble burning, but increased in fire forest soil. ► BC played a minor role in the C stabilisation in stubble burning soil. ► Aliphatics were dichromate oxidised to a lower extent than aromatic compounds. ► Results highlight importance of alkyl C for C storage. ► Soil C stock correlated with pyrophosphate extracted Al, but BC did not.
