Abstract
C. humilis var. humilis accumulates tocotrienols, rather than tocopherols, in quiescent seeds. Seeds synthesize tocopherols during seed germination, their accumulation starting just after operculum removal. Correlative evidence suggests tocopherols are required, rather than (or in addition to) tocotrienols, to protect seeds from lipid peroxidation events during germination.
