Abstract
The gene encoding guarana caffeine synthase enzyme (PcCS) is highly expressed in immature seeds, which has caffeine as the main alkaloid. Recombinant PcCS is active in the last two steps of caffeine biosynthesis pathway, with greatest affinity for theobromine.
