Abstract
⺠The mechanism of lachrymatory sulfine formation in Petiveria alliacea was studied. ⺠The sulfine is formed by hydride abstraction from phenylmethanesulfenic acid. ⺠It is concluded that the P. alliacea LFS is a dehydrogenase, whereas the LFS from onion (Allium cepa) is an isomerase.
