Abstract
⺠Emiliania huxleyi synthesises eicosapentaenoic acid via the alternative pathway. ⺠E. huxleyi Î5-desaturase is an acyl-CoA-dependent enzyme. ⺠Although octadecapentaenoic acid is the most abundant fatty acid in E. huxleyi, it is absent from the acyl-CoA pool.
