Abstract
⺠Dehydrocostus lactone is exuded by sunflower roots. ⺠This guaianolide sesquiterpene lactone acts as interspecific chemical signal. ⺠Like strigolactones, it stimulates germination of root parasitic weeds. ⺠Its biosynthesis is inhibited by mevastatin and not by fluridone. ⺠Phosphate starvation reduces its production.
