Abstract
► Steroidal glycoalkaloid (SGA) content changes during plant development. ► SGAs accumulate in aerial meristematic tissues. ► Leptines and leptinines account for the increases in SGA content of Solanum chacoense. ► Transcripts of genes coding for SGA biosynthetic enzymes are detected in proliferative but not all mature tissues.
