Abstract
⺠Eggplant polyphenol oxidase multigene family (PPO1-6) has two structural subclasses. ⺠Intronless gene members share significant homology in coding and untranslated regions. ⺠Eggplant PPO genes are clustered on chromosome 8 and share synteny with tomato and potato. ⺠Eggplant PPOs are co-expressed in a developmental and tissue-specific manner. ⺠Immunolocalization shows that PPOs are localized at the site of tissue injury.
