Abstract
► Injury causes local and systemic changes in respiration and primary carbon metabolism. ► Metabolite profile suggests early glycolytic enzymes are limiting. ► Large increases in respiration are likely sustained by use of metabolic bypasses. ► Glycolysis and TCA cycle were generally able to support small respiratory increases. ► Elevations in respiration were associated with changes in cellular redox status.
