Abstract
⺠Plants are exposed to many attackers and herbivorous insects take a prominent place. ⺠Plants have evolved a high diversity of secondary metabolites that mediate defences. ⺠A central paradigm in plant biology is the trade-off between growth and defence. ⺠Herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPV) mediate induced indirect defence. ⺠We review how HIPV affect interactions between plants and flower-visiting insects.
