Abstract
Phenylalanine ammonia-lyase was studied in Bambusa oldhamii. The purified bamboo shell PAL was confirmed using protein de novo sequencing. Four PAL genes were cloned from bamboo. The recombinant proteins exhibited PAL activity. PAL was localized primarily in the sclerenchyma cells.
