Abstract
⺠Pith cell walls may play a role as a maize defense mechanism against corn borers. ⺠Resistant genotypes had higher concentrations of total cell wall material. ⺠Resistant genotypes had higher concentrations of xylose and 8-O-4 diferulate esters. ⺠Damage data were negatively correlated with the concentrations of some hydroxycinnamates.
