Abstract
The formation of UV-honey guides in Rudbeckia hirta was investigated by UV-photography, reflectance spectroscopy, LC-MS analysis and biochemical studies. The local distribution of 19 flavonols in the petals was investigated in four developmental stages. The enzymes involved in their formation were demonstrated and characterized for the first time. The local accumulation of flavonols is not a result of the restricted presence of the enzymes at the basal part of the petals.
