Abstract
Under physiological conditions berberine bridge enzyme catalyzes the oxidation of (S)-reticuline to (S)-scoulerine. With a lower rate of conversion (S)-scoulerine serves as a substrate for further oxidation to the protoberberine alkaloid dehydroscoulerine.
