Abstract
The repellent activity of alligator pepper, Aframomum melegueta, and ginger, Zingiber officinale (Zingiberaceae), was assessed using the maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais. Both materials were significantly repellent, with the active components being isolated and identified for A. melegueta as (S)-2-heptanol, (S)-2-heptyl acetate and (R)-linalool, and for Z. officinale as 1,8-cineole, and neral and geranial.
