Abstract
Bioassay-guided fractionation of a cytotoxic root extract of Sideroxylon foetidissimum subsp. gaumeri (Sapotaceae) yielded five bisdesmosidic saponins (1-3, 5, 6) and one known example (4), the structures of which were determined by spectroscopic and chemical methods. Cytotoxicity was evaluated in the murine macrophage-like cell line, RAW 264.7.
