Abstract
Plant hexokinase fulfills a dual function as a glycolytic enzyme and a hexose sensor, and exists in multiple isoforms in all organs and tissues investigated. We discuss how the subcellular localizations and biochemical properties of these hexokinase isoforms may suit them to specific roles in primary metabolism and/or hexose sensing.
