Five new sesquiterpenes, soltorvums A-E (1-5), along with four known sesquiterpenes (6â¿¿9), were isolated from the stems of Solanum torvum. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis, including 1D NMR, 2D NMR, HRESIMS, HREIMS, IR, and X-ray techniques. All compounds were assayed for immunosuppressive activity. Among them, compounds 1, 5, 6, 8, and 9 showed significant inhibition of splenocyte proliferation under ConA induction in a concentration-dependent manner. This article is the first to report on the immunosuppressive effects of spirovetiva-type sesquiterpenes.
