Abstract
► Phytomelatonin levels of leaves and fruits of wild perennial species were tested. ► The tested species are known to be eaten by herbivores and frugivores. ► Considerable level of phytomelatonin was found in the leaves of all tested species. ► Phytomelatonin was found in seeds and pulp of fleshy fruits of different families. ► Edible phytomelatonin may affect the circadian rhythm of herbivores and frugivores.
