New cinchona alkaloid ester derivatives as catalysts in asymmetric “Interrupted” Feist–Bénary reaction

Different cinchona alkaloid ester derivatives have been prepared and evaluated as catalysts in the asymmetric “interrupted” Feist–Bénary (IFB) reaction of bromoketoesters with 1,3-cyclohexadione. The corresponding chiral hydroxyl dihydrofurans have been obtained in excellent yields and with up to 94% ee.
