Abstract
Acetyl radical reacts as a nucleophilic radical with pyridinium ions, and as an electrophilic radical with pyridine through a mechanism involving multiorbital interactions. Electronwithdrawing groups on the pyridinium ring accelerates these reactions and is likely to be responsible for the chemistry observed for the tuberculosis drug isoniazid.
