A novel and concise synthesis of (±)-pseudodeflectusin (1), an antitumor isochroman derivative isolated from the culture broth of Aspergillus pseudodeflectus, was accomplished by starting from 4-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-1-pentyne (3) and diethyl 3-oxopentanedicarboxylate (5).
