Abstract
O,O-Dialkyl-S-aryl-phosphorothioates are thermally unstable and decompose readily at a temperature of about 150° with formation of alkyl aryl sulfides and polymeric alkyl meta- or -polyphosphates. Differences in reactivity within a series of 33 phosphorothioates are rationalized on the basis of steric and electromeric effects. The mechanism of the thermal degradation is discussed, the influence of thioether and thiophenol on the thermolysis rate is investigated.
