The kinetic studies of newly synthesized 4-[2-(2-methylprop-1-enylidene)-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzimidazole-1-yl]-1-napthol from 4-phenyldiazenyl-1-napthol and 3-chloro-3-methyl-1-butyne have been carried out in two-phase system under the phase transfer catalysis conditions. The effect of varying parameters viz. temperature, amount of catalyst, stirring speed, amount of reactant on the reaction rate was investigated. Pseudo first-order kinetics can be used to describe the reaction rate. The apparent reaction rate constants were calculated and the activation energies of the reaction with different catalysts were determined. It is observed that the reaction under phase transfer catalytic conditions is found to be a versatile technique. The structures of the synthesized benzimidazole derivatives formed were evidenced by IR and 1H NMR spectral analyses.
