Abstract
A series of rans 2-(p-substitutedstryl)pyrroles and their N-Me derivatives have been synthesized using the Wittig reaction. The electronic absorption maxima are recorded and the frequencies of the long wavelength band are used to measure the effect of the para-substituent on the energy of transition from the ground to first excited state. IR measurements are used as an indication of the degree of interaction between the pyrrole ring and the aryl group in the ground state.
