Abstract
BETA zeolite coated on pre-shaped medium surface area silicon carbide carrier was prepared via an hydrothermal synthesis. 27Al MAS NMR analysis revealed that all the aluminum was in a tetrahedral coordination and no trace of alumina extraframework was observed. SEM observations have shown that zeolite homogeneously coated the outer surface of the silicon carbide extrudate support with different size and shape and random orientation. The as-prepared catalyst exhibits a high catalytic activity in the acetylation reaction of anisole in a batch mode. In addition, the BETA/SiC was more stable compared to the bulk zeolite.
