Abstract
Conventional and nanostructured ZrO2-8 wt.%Y2O3 coatings were performed on Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb (at.%) alloy by atmospheric plasma spray. The oxidation behavior of the specimens at 900 °C and 1100 °C for 200 h was investigated. According to the experimental results, the nanostructured coating showed a better oxidation resistance compared with the conventional coating, which is mainly associated with decreased porosity and microcracks, improved toughness and retained nanozone in the nanostructured coating. During oxidation, the thermally grown oxide formed on the bond coat, which prevented the diffusion of oxygen.
