Abstract
The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements and potentiodynamic polarization tests were carried out to investigate the corrosion behavior of as-cast and heat treated samples in synthetic saliva solution. The presence of intermetallic compounds were studied by X-ray diffraction method (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray detector (EDAX). The microstructural observations and electrochemical corrosion results revealed that, increasing the cooling rate improves the corrosion behavior of under investigation samples. Improvement of the corrosion behavior is attributed to reducing the area of fine distributed Ag3Sn islands in the Cu-rich matrix which decrease the cathode/anode ratio of microgalvanic cells.
