Abstract

- Organic UV absorber intercalated layered double hydroxide nanoplatelets were applied on cotton fabrics.
- Dual functions of superhydrophobic and UV-blocking were obtained.
- The thermal stability of the organic UV absorber was greatly enhanced by the host-guest interaction with LDH.
- Coated cotton fabric had about four-fold higher UV protection ability than untreated one.
