Abstract
► Results from microstructural characterization of the corroded heat exchanger are reported. ► The bulk material contained austenite and ferrite, with the latter being preferentially attacked. ► Corrosion had occurred as microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). ► A mechanism by which the corrosion attack had proceeded is suggested.
