Abstract
► Axial temperature gradients in the laser floating zone technique were calculated. ► Thinner fibres exhibit steeper temperature gradient. ► Increasing the temperature gradient a better grain alignment is obtained. ► An improvement on the superconducting properties is obtained in the thinner fibres.
