Abstract
⺠Axial temperature gradients in the laser floating zone technique were calculated. ⺠Thinner fibres exhibit steeper temperature gradient. ⺠Increasing the temperature gradient a better grain alignment is obtained. ⺠An improvement on the superconducting properties is obtained in the thinner fibres.
