Abstract
► Silica nanowires are capable of very high surface hydroxyl concentrations. ► Surface hydroxyl concentration corresponds to the pH of aqueous storage media. ► Storage in DI water and basic solution results in a decrease in surface hydroxyls. ► Storage in acidic solution results in an increase in surface hydroxyls. ► Fibronectin binding is inhibited by storage in water or basic solution.
