Abstract

•Synthesis of series of hydrotalcite-based CuMg3Al2−xFex-mixed oxide catalysts prepared by co-precipitation method.•Influences of transition metal content and of Cu/Fe ratio on propene oxidation and SCR of NO by C3H6.•Better activity for SCR of NO by copper mixed oxide.•Better activity for propene oxidation by iron mixed oxide.

Propene oxidation and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by C3H6 have been studied over a series of hydrotalcite-based CuMg3Al2−xFex (x = 0, 1, 2)-mixed oxide catalysts prepared by co-precipitation method. The solids were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The influences of transition metal content and of Cu/Fe ratio on the catalytic performance have been investigated. When copper species are the only active phase, a better NO conversion is obtained. The introduction of iron species into the structure reduced the activity toward SCR of NO but lowered the temperature of complete propene conversion.
