Abstract
► Grazing incident X-ray diffraction enables stress measurements in surface layers. ► Göbel mirror significantly reduces the uncertainty of determined stresses. ► Using multireflection grazing incidence method the peak broadening can be analysed. ► Mechanical polishing can produce stress gradient in the surface layer. ► Compressive stress in the CrN film deposited on the steel substrate is generated.
