Abstract
► Binding of water to DME leads to tgt conformation at all water/DME ratios. ► Water is bound to DME in a tight envelope containing at least five water molecules. ► The hydration envelope is built up by cooperative O-H⋯O and O⋯H-C hydrogen bonds.
