Abstract
DFT calculations of structural preferences, acidic properties, carbonyl vibrations, 13C NMR chemical shifts, and absorption spectrum account for the unique structural backbone, chemical behaviour, and spectroscopic properties of usnic acid, the cortical pigment and potent reactive of lichens.
