Abstract
The BNNO and AlNNO molecules were prepared by the reactions of laser-evaporated boron and aluminum atoms with nitrous oxide molecules in solid argon, and were identified on the basis of isotopically substituted infrared absorptions as well as theoretical calculations. Both molecules were predicted to have a 2Aâ² ground state with a zigzag geometry. The N2O subunit in BNNO is highly activated with a quite long NN bond length. The AlNNO molecule is an aluminum nitrous oxide complex with a less activated N2O subunit.
