Abstract
- Water-structure based mechanistic view on the reaction of two eâaq is presented.
- Proton transfer occurs when two eâaq occupy neighbouring cavities in HB network.
- The formation of H2 results from backward scattering in rigid HB network.
- Puzzling behaviour of eâaq reveals change in connectivity of hydrogen-bonds above 150 °C.
