Abstract
An efficient sensor 5-bromoindole-3-carboxaldehyde ethylthiosemicarbazone (L) for Hg2+ ion was synthesized. It displayed fluorescence quenching due to the formation of non-fluorescence Lâ¿¿Hg complex. In addition, Hg2+ can be extracted and removed from water because the mixture of dichloromethane and water consists of two immiscible phases.
