Abstract
► We achieved hybrid nanostructures consisting of tipped polycrystalline Si nanocones coated with C-nanotubes. ► We used a dual mode microwave/radio frequency plasma CVD technique. ► Coupling different C and Si nanostructures, new materials characterized by novel physical properties could be obtained. ► Electron diffraction and Raman data suggest that 3D nanostructures are obtained via a molten/recrystallization mechanism. ► A model is conceived to give a possible explanation of the concurrent growth of Si and C nanostructures.
