Abstract
► We transform protein sequence into sparse matrix. ► Novel 20-D descriptors based on singular value decomposition of matrix were obtained. ► The similarities/dissimilarities among the nine ND5 proteins were compared. ► Evolutionary relationships were analyzed. ► The comparison results show that our approach is valid and practicable.
