Abstract
⺠Ions of the elements from the IA and IIA groups form complexes with methane. ⺠Methane binding is stronger for the IIA ions and decreases with atomic number. ⺠Very strong complex is formed by methane with the beryllium ion. ⺠QTAIM analysis indicates the chemical bonding between carbon and metal. ⺠3c2e bonds between metals and CH unit are crucial for complex formation.
