Abstract
⺠Complexes between FCl and C bases can be traditional, chlorine-shared, or ion-pair. ⺠Only traditional halogen bonds are found in neutral complexes of FCl with N bases. ⺠Structures, energies, and spin-spin coupling constants provide evidence for this. ⺠The question of why the C and N bases are so different is also addressed.
