Abstract
⺠Choice of aromatic bridge coupled with the substitution pattern on the ring allows targeting specific spectral features (absorption or transparency windows). ⺠Asymmetric bridges (e.g., azulene) produce large hyperpolarizabilities. ⺠Zwitter-ionic mesomers rationalize hyperpolarizability and spectral trends.
