Abstract
⺠A DFT protocol is validated for structures and energetics of mixed Fe-Pt complexes. ⺠A low barrier is found for the initial reaction between Fe(CO)5 and Pt(COD)2. ⺠Mixed Fe-Pt carbonyl clusters may be involved in FePt nanoparticle formation.
