Abstract
Structural dynamics with atomic-scale resolution are considered for both microscopy and surface crystallography. Experimental and theoretical results elucidate the insignificant role of transient electric fields in microscopy and show how structural dynamics can unambiguously be determined in diffraction from surfaces.
