Abstract
⺠Onsager's irreversible thermodynamics predicts three types of paradoxical behavior at a gas-liquid interface. ⺠Measurements of the Onsager heat of transport Qâ at an interface can lead to valuable insights into processes at surfaces. ⺠The coupling of heat and matter fluxes can have a significant effect on the magnitude and direction of the air-sea exchange of gases such as CO2.
